280 not 350

Understating the magnitude of a problem isn't a new thing. In this case it is not paper profits at stake. It's life. By now you've heard that climate change is happening, and happening faster that previously predicted. The evidence for this comes from many sources and the rapidity with which scientific concern has escalated is alarming. James Hansen and a huge pile of coauthors just chopped their recommendation for a stabilized atmospheric CO2 concentration from 450ppm to 350 ppm -- or less!
If humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted, paleoclimate evidence and ongoing climate change suggest that CO2 will need to be reduced from its current 385 ppm to at most 350 ppm, but likely less than that.

350ppm is well above Holocene CO2 levels, which were at or below 280ppm prior to the industrial age.
